As a storm spotter for his department, Eddy’s interest in weather phenomenon grew as well, and now, almost two decades later, Eddy Weiss became a well-known storm chaser and disaster preparedness educator known throughout the country.
Buckled into “Dorothy”, his storm chase vehicle, Eddy Weiss appeared on countless television programs across the nation as he not only shared his messages of disaster preparedness, but became a well-known story-teller and inspirational speaker. Dorothy was donated to the Sci-Tech Children's Museum in Aurora, Illinois in early September of 2009 not ending her career, but giving her a new one as she will now be used to educate thousands more as a hands-on severe weather safety display. (See Dorothy here ) With a background in crisis counseling and rescue work, Eddy’s unique perspective breathes fresh air into a subject few wish to talk about; what if it happens here?
There is seemingly no end to the subject matter as Eddy is in a constant state of creating new programming, conference themes, workshops and presentations on subjects such as home disaster preparedness, business continuity, community response, faith-based disaster response, public education, child safety, children in disaster and emergency planning.
Currently, Eddy serves as Assistant Director of Chasing4Life as well as for The Whirlwind Foundation . Eddy has been recognized for his work by community organizations, churches, schools and civic groups throughout the United States, and has recently received a Presidential award for a lifetime of service to America’s communities.
